Curse of Corfu

We entered Gouvia Marina for one night to top up with water and diesel. Yeah Right.
Had a prospective purchaser arriving from Cyprus and we were to meet him the next day.

Gouvia is a pleasant marina - last year we upgraded with solar and new batteries plus other maintenance, but it seems every time we enter we stay far longer than intended.

This time we met Michael, the purchaser and went through the formalities - yacht systems and trial sail. All agreed so fund transfer was arranged. Well - try and deal with Barclays Bank.
Four days later and we are still on the marina. Funds transfer all arranged so we move in to a resort hotel. One week later we are still here. Michael has flown to London and back. Still no funds. Bugger.

So, we went to Preveza (1.5hr ferry ride, 1.5hour drive) to look for a replacement for Moondance. Why are we replacing Moondance - good question, keep reading.
When I purchased Moondance it was with the intention of giving Raewyn (nervous non sailor) the opportunity to sail in an area which has very few vices with weather etc. To see if she enjoyed the experience. Well, we had a magnificent season and Raewyn was converted to cruising. So, on returning to NZ I listed Moondance with the intention of taking a year to sell and we planned our next winter months back in Italian and Ionian waters. Idyllic.
We had very few serious enquiries and did not expect a sale. Out of the blue we got an enquiry from Cyprus and Michael turned up in Corfu to view and ultimately buy Moondance. We gave him every opportunity to back out, and stuck to our price as the realisation kicked in that we were in the Nth Hemisphere for another 4 months with nothing planned.
A serious discussion with Raewyn ensued and we agreed that cruising in this area was our best option. Plenty to see and do. Great weather (blue skies every day and warm) Great people and lovely anchorages.

So, here we are at Heraklion Resort  Govino Bay Gouvia - near the Marina, with a pool and hire car exploring our beloved Corfu. two swims in the sea each day. Life can only be better when cruising.

Watch for the results of our trip to Preveza. we are finding selling a yacht is the same as selling a house. Everything is dearer than expected when buying.
