From Patras we went on to Navpaktos under the large bridge.
Have to radio bridge control to be allocated a span to transit. From there we
went back to Patras for 2 nights (pay for one, get one free). It was windy and we were pleased to be in the
marina and have a look around Patras – the third largest city in Greece.
On to the Gulf of Corinth again and a lovely anchorage just
outside the small island town of Trezonia. Took the dinghy in to the small marina
and walked around the town.
Carrying on upthe gulf we anchored in a very sheltered bay
where there were fish farms, and very near our next stop Galaxidi. A delightful
town and we took the afternoon bus to the ancient city of Delphi (The centre of
the universe in Ancient Greek times. It was hot and we were pleased to have
left it till late afternoon. The archaeological site is very steep. The museum
was excellent as were the ruins. We had dinner in a taverna with extensive
views over the Gulf of Corinth and arrived back at the yacht at 10pm.
From there it was back to Navpaktos and in settled
conditions we had a look around the town, a meal and icecreams. Seems our trip
ashore are following a theme.
Returning to Patras we took a bus to a scenic funicular railway
that runs up to a village- Kalavryta in the hills. Most impressive scenery and
the village had a museum dedicated to treatment by the Italians and Germans
during WW2. Brutal.
Leaving the Gulf of Patras we headed for Kyllini, a port on
the mainland. Had a rolly night and were pleased to leave for Zakynthos the
next day. Firstly we arrived at the Blue Caves at the top of the island, then
went baround to wreck bay on the west side of the island. We missed both these
places last year and it was interesting
to visit. Stunningly beautiful places
with lots of caves, different shades of blue water and white sand.
Back to Kefallonia where we anchored off the seaside town of
Poros.
Headed off in the morning we motored to Fiskardo, went in
and had a look but seemed to time our visit with many tripper boats and the
town was full of tourists. Leaving Fiskardo we had a good sail back to Tranquil
Bay in Nidri.
Found Stathis tavern and had a ½ portion of gyros. It was
huge. Did not see a full portion, and think it would be beyond finishing. Cost
was 4 euros. We also found the best yogurt icecream place. We like Nidri.
From there it is a short distance to Spartachori on the
island of Meganissi. The village is up a steep hill, but the walk is well worth
it. Not much has changed in Spartachori for years and it has an ageing
population.
Back to Nidri to catch up with Barrie from Sailing Holidays.
Met some kwis on a yacht called Nikau who are sailing back to NZ.
From Tranquil Bay Nidri we stopped for diesel at the marina
in Levkas, then continued through the canal to Preveza. Saw turtles in the bay.
